An incredibly good book!

While I had at first thought that this book might be kind of weird, there wasn’t much selection to choose from if I wanted a print book from the blogging program, so I ordered The Orphan King to read and review, and now am glad I did! This book piqued my interest from the first page and kept me eager to continue reading. Thomas, an orphan who doesn’t have a clue of what his family’s mysterious past is or the destiny he is to fulfill, escapes the corrupt monastery where he was raised and ends up on an urgent quest with three mysterious companions who may or may not be just what they seem: a knight, a pickpocket, and a mute and deaf girl. Can Thomas trust them? Are they allies or enemies? And what lies beyond the walls of the city Magnus? I just have to add, I really liked the bold, creative, ingenious main character Thomas- and mischievous young Tiny John, the pickpocket. All the characters were well-written and memorable, but those two were my favorites! I read this whole book in less than 24 hours and couldn’t put it down! (My mom and two of my siblings have also read it now, and they were hooked, too!) I am now eagerly anticipating the second book in the series, Fortress of Mist, which is coming out in February. To sum up, the author, Sigmund Brouwer, writes a captivating and unforgettable story. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because it was way more than just a good book. Fantastic Allegory!

I was skeptical at first as to whether I would like Dragonspell or not... based on the cover and the summary I thought it might be a bit weird- but that was before I got the book and started reading! Don’t “judge this book by its cover”! I started reading last night and found myself instantly captured by the book’s well-written plot, memorable characters… and, of course, the baby dragon! :-) Fourteen-year-old Kale, a former slave, is on her way to the great city of Vendela to bring a dragon egg she has found to The Hall and to join Paladin’s followers. On her way, she meets perilous danger. A group of Paladin’s followers rescues her and they her a message- that instead of going to The Hall for her training, she is needed to join them immediately on a crucial quest to find and recover a rare and important meech dragon’s egg, which has been taken by an evil wizard who, unless stopped, will use it for a devastating purpose.

 This was a fantastic and well-written book, and I love how it’s a fun and exciting story and also an allegory! This has been one of my absolute favorite books that I’ve gotten through the blogging program- did I mention that I only got the book last night and already finished it?! This book is one I would definitely recommend to others. I loved it!

UNBROKEN... a review

I was really, really looking forward to getting “UNBROKEN” to read, and I was not disappointed. This captivating book tells the story of Louis Zamperini, from his days as a delinquent child to Olympic runner, WWI pilot to his imprisonment as a POW in a Japanese prison camp, and his spiritual journey to where he forgave his captors!

One note, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for anyone younger than 13 or 14 years old due to some of the chapters where Louie was in the POW camps, as there’s some “PG-13” content there- but for anyone older it is an excellent and worthwhile read. I couldn’t put it down! This book was really good.

Two stories intertwined...

Three Mexican fishermen lost at sea and a former Hollywood executive now lost in a sea of depression, drugs and addiction couldn't be more different, but they have one thing in common- the Bible. Thir two journeys are intertwined in a story of what it really means to trust God.
I enjoyed reading The Fourth Fisherman. It was an inspiration to me to keep trusting God even in the most difficult of circumstances.

The Scroll: A book review

David Chambers is trying to forget the faith he once had when his old mentor convinces him to help in a dig under ancient Jerusalem. The goal? To recover a list of artifacts listed on the Copper Scroll- artifacts from a Jewish temple that had been hidden centuries before. The drama continues to unfold when someone tries to stop the archaeological team from carrying out their project. A bomb, a student found killed, and the safety of another member of the team jeopardized, are only a few of the things that come between the job and its completion. Through the story and as a result of the dig, David finds his faith again, and the nation is forever changed.

I must say I really enjoyed this book. The plot was really intriguing and the story was well-written. I wouldn’t hesitate to read more books like this.
